Carlsbad Description

Nestled in the North County of San Diego, Carlsbad is a coastal gem on the Southern California shoreline.  Founded in the 1860’s as a cattle station, Carlsbad is filled with a rich and interesting history.  The city is a fantastic location for those looking to move to San Diego as it promotes a healthy lifestyle founded in excellent outdoor activities, thriving industry and amazing schools. 

Industry:

Carlsbad has a growing industry of start-ups and established companies in the area.  Because of this strong growth, top employers include ViaSat (satellite communication), ThermoFisher Scientific (biotech), Legoland California (amusement park).  Furthermore, the area is home to the Carlsbad/Palomar Airport Authority that runs a variety of Part 61 and 135 airport operations.

Additionally, Carlsbad is conveniently located to major tech / financial / medical areas located in Sorrento Valley, UTC / La Jolla and Downtown.

Health and Fitness:

Home to the Carlsbad Marathon and 5K, Carlsbad promotes a healthy lifestyle.  With 3 open park reserves, miles of uninterrupted shoreline and a multitude of golf courses, Carlsbad has a variety of options for the ocean swimmer, the avid runner/bicycler and golfer.

Carlsbad has 13 community parks and 27 special use areas with a range of amenities located throughout the city.  The city manages several recreational facilities, including two community centers with gymnasiums, Senior Center and pools. 

Carlsbad enjoys seven miles of amazing shoreline and beaches.  Local natural parks include Carlsbad State Beach, South Carlsbad State Beach, Agua Hedionda Lagoon, Batiquitos Lagoon, and Buena Vista Lagoon. 

School Districts:

Some of the best schools in San Diego are found in the Encinitas and Carlsbad Unified School Districts.  Parents have a variety of excellent options to meet the needs of their children.

Arts and Entertainment:

With a lively downtown area, Carlsbad has great entertainment options.  Namely, Carlsbad has wonderful amusement parks, museums and other cultural activities.  Furthermore, Carlsbad is a short 30 minute drive to downtown San Diego and Balboa Park.  These areas offer great entertainment option to include music, museums and professional sports. 

To add, Carlsbad is an hour and half drive from the wide array of options in Los Angeles and Orange County.

The City of Carlsbad offers a variety of free events (music, entertainment, art) to the community throughout the year.  The Summer Concert series that highlights local artists at select city parks throughout the summer.

Transportation:

Located on the coast, Carlsbad has easy access to public transportation to either San Diego or the Los Angeles area.  The Coaster (local train) runs daily to downtown for those that do not want to drive.  Additionally, the Interstate 5 freeway runs through the middle of Carlsbad and is an easy option for those who prefer to drive.   Recent upgrades to the freeway will reduce traffic for the next years to come.

Food:

Some of the best food in North County is to be found in Carlsbad Village.  With a thriving local cuisine, the village is undergoing a great “farm to fork” renewal.  With fantastic restaurants such as Campfire, King’s Fish House and 264 Fresco, any culinary aficionado will find something they love in this town!  The quaint village and surrounding area are sure to have something that the whole family will enjoy.
